In 2025, YouTube maintained its status as the most-watched streaming platform in the U.S., far outpacing Netflix, Disney+, and Amazon Prime. According to a recent report by Pew, 84% of Americans report having used the site, further underscoring its importance in Americans’ daily lives. While the vast majority of content on the platform has nothing to do with politics, in recent years YouTube has also become an influential place where political issues are debated, elected officials sit for interviews, conspiracy theories spread, and partisan influencers build clout. This year, I’ve published quarterly reports on YouTube’s political landscape, and for this week’s newsletter, I wanted to share new original data that breaks down the platform’s biggest political channels of the year by a number of metrics.
Ultimately, what I’ve found is that the real power players shaping political discourse on YouTube aren’t just the legacy brands and personalities the press usually highlights, but also the unexpected independent creators whose rapid growth and viral reach reveal how algorithms keep rewriting the rules of political influence heading into the midterms.
