The new wave of political voices winning YouTube
A subtle but important shift is underway on YouTube, and it is beginning to reshape the partisan media landscape. Left-of-center political creators appear to be matching, and in many cases surpassing, their conservative rivals on the platform that has long been a powerhouse of right-leaning political content.
New data compiled from analytics firm Social Blade and confirmed by several top creators shows that in August, the top 100 left-leaning political channels on YouTube collectively drew 2.166 billion video views, narrowly edging out right-leaning channels, which logged 2.155 billion. Those numbers are clear evidence that liberal voices are gaining momentum in a space where conservatives once dominated.
